Job Description

THE SALARY IS FOR 37.5 HOURS.

• Laying bricks
• Applying or removing grout with a trowel
• Strengthening and sealing foundations with the appropriate material, usually damp-resistant materials
• Repairing building blocks and chimneys
• Refurbishing decorative stonework
• Measuring. Before laying bricks, the bricklayer needs to measure the build area to be able to place the first rows of bricks and damp course
• Understanding and managing the quantities of material required for the job
• Using tools such as hand tools, brick-cutting machines but also spirit levels and plumb lines to check building alignment
Lay bricks and other types of masonry units to construct or repair walls, partitions, arches, fireplaces, chimneys, and other structures
– Read blueprints and specifications to determine the layout and dimensions of the structure
– Mix mortar and spread it onto the brick or masonry units using trowels
– Use various tools such as hammers, chisels, levels, and jointers to shape and align the bricks or masonry units
– Cut bricks or masonry units to size using saws or power tools
– Apply weatherproofing and finishing coats of mortar to the exterior surfaces of completed walls
– Clean and polish finished surfaces
